Opua, New Zealand – Port Villa, Vanuatu
Day Seven
Welcome to the second installment in an ever expanding photo series of sailing to Vanuatu with Anita Pitu Photography. In this episode we get our very first glimpse of land after five days of nothing but sea on sky horizons. There was a theory thrown around the night before by Simon, the wise seafaring skipper of South Sea Vagabond, that we would be able to smell land. This sensory phenomena did not disappoint and although highly un-photographable is definitely up there with highlights worthy of a shout out. In the lee of Tanna island we were greeted by a small pod of common dolphins who play in the wake of the bow for a soul enriching fifteen minutes. As you will see, dolphins, on the other hand, super photographable and the main reason for the extended blog post schedule…because guys, DOLPHINS! The clarity of the ocean has allowed for some pretty baller snaps but as with the albatross from the beginning of the journey, I am kicking myself for not packing a zoom lens.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some…or in the case of a personal escort into the pacific islands by a group of highly intelligent majestic beings, gliding through the water like birds on the breeze…we’re probably just winning in this scenario.
Stay tuned for Episode Three: Landfall in Port Villa featuring lighthouses with no lights, cruise-liner cut ins, replica tall-ships, and a cheeky evening stand up paddling session! Happy scrolling!!
